Welcome

The Institute of Engineering Seismology and Earthquake Engineerits (ITSAK) was founded in Thessaloniki on 1979 after the catastrophic earthquake of June 20, 1978 as a research center under the auspices of Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (former Ministry of Environment & Public Works). On 2011, it was merged with Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (EPPO) as a research unit. The main activities of ITSAK refer to applied research in the fields of Engineering Seismology, Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering and Earthquake Resistant Structures. It is the sole research centre in Greece whose activities fall in this complex research and development field and one of the few European research centers specialized to study earthquakes and their impact to urban environment aiming to the reduction of seismic risk.
