Research Areas of Interest

Earthquake Engineering with emphasis on :

  • Experimental and analytical investigation of the dynamic behaviour of structures, structural components, materials and non-structural components subjected to earthquake actions.
  • Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Engineering structures (buildings, bridges, dams) and evaluation of their dynamic response to earthquake qnd ambient excitations
  • Design and contruction of a low-cost, MEMS-based accelerograph. Development of a pilot ultra-dense network in an urban area (Lefkada, Greece)
  • Assessment of seismic risk of urban areas and seismic evaluation of existing buildings.
  • New methods for seismic design, estimation of the seismic capacity and strengthening of existing buildings (performance-based design methods, pushover and nonlinear dynamic analyses etc.)
  • Investigation of Soil-Structure Interaction effects on instrumented buildings

Theoretical / Numerical Mechanics with emphasis on :

  • Development of Finite Elements for the dynamic analysis of shell structures.
  • Development of Stochastic Boundary Elements for the estimation of the propagation of seismic waves in soils with random properties.
